The Federation Square precinct is the cultural heart of Melbourne and its NGV gallery was put in place to showcase Australian art to thousands of visitors daily.
The gallery was set up as a flexible space, with movable walls throughout enabling them to change the structure of the space to suit the particular exhibition. As such, an emergency signage system was required which would be conducive with the ever changing nature of the gallery. As the walls were portable, it was not possible to install a powered system due to the need for wiring.
Way Out installed luminous colourbond panels which were adhered to the walls, creating an entirely flexible evacuation system that was still durable enough to handle the high volume of people moving through the building.
